Samsung has announced that it plans to release something called the "Premium Suite" upgrade for Galaxy Note users that will not only bring new applications and S Pen features to the device, but will also update the oversized smartphone to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Hipstamatic gains share-to-Instagram abilities

Hipstamatic has announced that its app will soon have the ability to share photos to Instagram's social network, effectively linking the 2010 and 2011 Apple-selected best apps of the year. The Instagram sharing is very similar to the Facebook and Twitter sharing already available for Hipstamatic users. This is the first time that a third-party app has been able to contribute to the photos on Instagram, instead of just being able to view them. When shared to Instagram, Hipstamatic photos will have a "Taken With Hipstamatic" tag, so everyone will easily recognize where they came from. The tag is clickable, and will direct viewers to the Hipstamatic app. Hipstamatic is $1.99 and can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store now.

iPhone 4S' Siri assistant gained more Yelp-ing powers with iOS 5.1

FCC looking at 700MHz interoperability, considers allowing Dish to roll out LTE

Following encouragement from T-Mobile and smaller carriers, the Federal Communications Commission has proposed new rules to make the 700Mhz spectrum used by AT&T and Verizon Wireless more interoperable. The FCC also started the process of approving Dish Networks' plans to use its 2GHz satellite spectrum for a land-based 4G LTE network.

Sony Xperia S smartphone gets global distribution

Sony has announced that its Xperia S smartphone that was unveiled at CES 2012 is now shipping globally. The Xperia S features a 4.3-inch, 720p HD display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, a 12 megapixel camera, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Sony's custom user interface. It was launched in Europe at the end of February, but now can be found on carriers across the world. Those of us in the U.S. that want to get our hands on one should head to a Sony store, as the Xperia S has not been announced for any U.S. carriers just yet.

U.S. Senate to hold hearing on Verizon spectrum acquisitions today

The U.S. Senate will hold its hearing on Verizon Wireless' proposed spectrum acquisitions from cable companies today. Verizon announced last year that it plans to buy billions of dollars worth of spectrum rights from Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, and Cox Communications. The proposal drew the attention of the Department of Justice and then the Senate amid concerns of anti-trust violations. Reportedly, the Senate is also concerned that the deal will cause Verizon Communications, Verizon Wireless' parent company, to neglect its FiOS home television and internet services as an appeasement to the cable companies that it is working with.

Virgin Mobile restores data, text services after 15-hour outage

Virgin Mobile has announced that full service has been restored to its customers following an outage that started Tuesday evening. Customers were unable to access Virgin Mobile's data network or send or receive text messages. The prepaid carrier suggests that users remove the battery from their devices and restart them if they continue to have issues.

Windows Phone lands in China; HTC first manufacturer to offer device

Microsoft expanded Windows Phone's boundaries today with the launch of the platform in China. The company developed a Chinese version of its Metro interface that supports both simplified and traditional versions of the language, and HTC is the first manufacturer with a Windows Phone handset for sale in the country. The Eternity, a version of the HTC Titan adapted for the Chinese market, sports a 4.7-inch WVGA display and both front and rear cameras.

Wunderlist to-do manager arrives for Windows Phone

Wunderlist is continuing its cross-platform to-do list domination, as a new version of the app has hit the Windows Phone Marketplace today. The Windows Phone version of Wunderlist syncs with all of the other clients available, including the iOS, Android, and BlackBerry versions, but features a Metro-inspired design that fits in well with the Windows Phone platform. Manufacturers duke it out over nano-SIM standard

Today's standard SIM and micro-SIM cards may seem to be small enough already, but that hasn't stopped mobile phone manufacturers from looking into the new nano-SIM cards that promise to be even smaller.
