UK's Ofcom green-lights Everything Everywhere's 4G LTE network

Ofcom, the regulatory body that governs communication services in the UK, has given Everything Everywhere approval to repurpose its 2G spectrum for 4G LTE services later this year. This will give Everything Everywhere an advantage over the other carriers in the UK that will have to wait until Ofcom auctions off more spectrum for LTE purposes before they can deploy their own 4G networks. The other carriers have until April 17 to file their opposition to the Ofcom's decision.

T-Mobile added to Rural Cellular Association's roster

The Rural Cellular Association (RCA), a committee of smaller carriers that lobbies to fight the influence that the two largest carriers in the U.S., AT&T and Verizon Wireless, have, has added T-Mobile USA to its membership. Normally, membership in the RCA is limited to carriers with less than 10 million subscribers, but an exception was made to add T-Mobile and its 33 million subscribers to the ranks. Last year, the same exception was made for Sprint when it joined the RCA, even though it had over 50 million subscribers at the time. The RCA and T-Mobile have had similar interests as of late, as both have opposed Verizon's proposed purchase of wireless spectrum from cable companies.

Apple says Proview is misleading courts with its iPad trademark claims

The case between Apple and Chinese company Proview over the iPad trademark has taken another turn today, as Apple filed a statement in Chinese courts claiming that Proview is intentionally misleading with its claim to the trademark. Apple says that Proview tricked Apple into signing an agreement that could later cause confusion in Chinese courts.

T-Mobile extends "4G" HSPA+ coverage to 8 new markets today

Apple's new iPad confirmed to pack 1GB of RAM, 1GHz processor

RIM has announced the availability of the long-awaited BlackBerry Mini Keyboard for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. The BlackBerry Mini Keyboard offers PlayBook owners a full QWERTY keyboard and trackpad, though it doesn't come cheap.

UK Samsung Galaxy S II users getting Android 4.0 ICS on March 19

After announcing that South Korea and a handful of European countries would be getting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the Galaxy S II smartphone today, Samsung has said that users in the UK will see the upgrade arrive on March 19, pending carrier approval. Android 4.0 offers a number of improvements over the older Android 2.3 Gingerbread system, including a new user interface and multitasking system as well as a Face Unlock feature.

Sony announces Xperia sola smartphone with "floating touch" technology

Sony has taken the wraps off of the sola, the latest smartphone in its Xperia line. From the outside, the Xperia sola appears to be your run-of-the-mill slab-style Android smartphone, but Sony was able to pack some new technology into the touchscreen that is designed to make it easier to navigate the web.
