| Egypt mobile phone and internet services severed Posted: 28 Jan 2011 05:13 AM PST The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Egyptian government has cut mobile and internet based communications in parts the country in an effort to curb an expected protests against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Vodafone Group's headquarters in the UK confirmed that its Vodafone Egypt unit and all other Egyptian mobile carriers had been instructed to suspend service in parts of Egypt. The Journal claims that social networks such as Twitter and Facebook were being used to coordinate protests, prompting the government to temporarily cut its links to the outside world. | Motorola Atrix 4G, HTC Inspire 4G, listed on Amazon briefly Posted: 28 Jan 2011 05:03 AM PST For a brief amount of time yesterday AmazonWireless listed the Motorola Atrix 4G and the Inspire 4G on its website. It said that the AT&T Atrix 4G was going to be available on February 11 for $149.99 with a new contract and listed the HTC Inspire 4G for $99.99 with a contract or $499.99 contract free. The website was quickly pulled, but it looks like we might have an idea of what those devices will retail for. Read the full story here. |
| T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4G sign-up page launched Posted: 28 Jan 2011 04:48 AM PST T-Mobile has launched a sign-up page for the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, its latest Android smartphone capable of running on its HSPA+ 4G network. The page gives a brief overview of the Galaxy S 4G and says that more information about the phone will be available in the coming weeks. It will offer a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, run Android 2.2, and is capable of achieving peak downloads speeds up to 21Mbps. | Skype for Android updated with bug fixes, performance enhancements Posted: 27 Jan 2011 07:37 AM PST Skype has updated its Android client to version 1.0.3. The latest version fixes an issue where Skype would crash when a Skype call came in during another VOIP call. | Future Apple iPhone to support TD-LTE for China Mobile Posted: 27 Jan 2011 07:19 AM PST According to China Mobile chairman Wang Jianzhou, Apple has "made it clear" that it will support the Chinese-favored TD-LTE 4G standard on a future iPhone model. The iPhone is currently available in China on China Unicom, which uses GSM/UMTS standards, similar to AT&T in the U.S. China Mobile currently runs a 3G network based on TD-SCDMA, a proprietary version of WCDMA. | Motorola sees slowdown in Verizon sales after iPhone announcement Posted: 27 Jan 2011 07:18 AM PST During Motorola's earnings call Motorola's CEO Sanjay Jha said that his company has seen a bit of a slowdown in its sales since Verizon has announced the upcoming availability of the iPhone 4. "Since the announcement of the iPhone, we have seen a little slow down in our sell through of devices at Verizon," Jha said.
