| Verizon to offer 3G CDMA Apple iPad in future Posted: 11 Jan 2011 01:25 PM PST According to Bloomberg Businessweek, Verizon Communications CFO Francis Shammo said in an interview that Verizon Wireless would offer a version of the Apple iPad with built-in 3G CDMA data support, though no date or other particulars were given. It is possible that Shammo was referring to a future model of the iPad that has yet to be announced and not just a refitted version of the original GSM/UMTS iPad that Verizon already sells as part of a bundle with its MiFi 3G mobile hotspot. Murdoch reportedly called the digital newspaper News Corp's "most exciting product." | Verizon to sell iPhone 4 contract-free Posted: 11 Jan 2011 09:18 AM PST Verizon Wireless will begin selling the iPhone 4 on February 10 in Verizon and Apple retail stores for $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB). However, according to the Frequently Asked Questions section of its website, it will also sell the device contract-free. "When purchasing iPhone at the 2 year promotional price a new agreement is required. However, you will also have the option to purchase iPhone at full retail price, which will not require you to sign a long-term agreement," the site says. | Verizon will not offer white iPhone 4 Posted: 11 Jan 2011 09:04 AM PST This one isn't surprising, but it's worth noting. According to a Verizon Wireless spokesperson, Verizon Wireless will not carry a white version of the Apple iPhone 4. Apple originally revealed a white version of the device when it announced the AT&T iPhone 4, but it has never made its way to the market. Looks like us white iPhone fans will have to keep on wishing. The Apple iPhone 4 features a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and HD video recording, Apple's A4 processor, and a Retina touchscreen display. | Verizon iPhone 4 adds mobile 3G hotspot sharing capabilities Posted: 11 Jan 2011 08:40 AM PST Today Verizon Wireless announced that it will begin offering the Apple iPhone 4 on February 10 in retail stores. The device will run on Verizon's CDMA network, but offers one major feature that AT&T's doesn't: support for Verizon Personal Hotspot. Verizon's Personal Hotspot service allows users to share their 3G connection with up to 5 other Wi-Fi capable devices. That would mean you could use your iPhone 4 to provide internet to your laptop, a tablet, and other consumer electronics. Verizon has not yet detailed how much this feature will cost in addition to a standard data plan. Read the full story here. |
| Apple explains lack of 4G LTE on Apple iPhone Posted: 11 Jan 2011 08:38 AM PST At Verizon's press conference in New York City today, during which Verizon and Apple announced a CDMA version of the Apple iPhone 4, Apple's chief operating officer, Tim Cook, took time to explain Apple's choice to go with a CDMA iPhone instead of an LTE one now. He said that there were two key reasons for the decision. The first was that Apple believes first-gen LTE would have forced some design compromises that Apple "would not make." Secondly, he said "Verizon customers wanted the Apple iPhone now." The iPhone 4 goes on sale on February 10 in both Verizon and Apple retail stores. Read the full story here. |

| Sony Ericsson Xperia arc processor detailed Posted: 11 Jan 2011 07:46 AM PST Sony Ericsson has revealed that its new Android 2.3 Gingerbread-powered Xperia arc smartphone is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor that is paired with an Adreno 205 graphics chip. While some spotted the device running Android 2.4 during the Consumer Electronics Show last week, Sony Ericsson has said that this was just a "misconfiguration" error.
