News Corp and Apple push off launch of The Daily digital newspaper for iPad

News Corp. and Apple have reportedly decided to delay the launch of a new digital newspaper for the iPad called The Daily. "The app and the service work, it's just getting them to talk to each other that needs more time," a source told The Wall Street Journal. The delay should only last a few weeks, and not months, another source said. The Daily is a digital newspaper that's been a joint project between Apple and News Corp. Over 100 people have been hired to work on it, including well established journalists, and Apple hopes to use it as a model for its new subscription-based service.

Motorola ATRIX 4G could launch on AT&T on March 1

Rumor has it that AT&T could launch the Motorola ATRIX 4G on March 1. The ATRIX 4G was announced during the Consumer Electronics Show, and it offers a ton of hardware muscle, including a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor.

Verizon Motorola DROID Pro update available now

Verizon announced that it is updating the Motorola DROID Pro with some performance and operating system enhancements. The update improves the audio on voice calls, and also improves the device's overall stability and performance. It should now prepend the 011 country code to SMS messges, global mode will no longer reset after connecting a USB charger, and visual voicemail now detects airplane mode while Wi-Fi is active. RIM BlackBerry Torch 2 leaked, may hit AT&T in Q3

Looks like there's a third BlackBerry leak today. Specs and an image of the Torch 2 have been spotted, and it appears that the new version will offer a 1.2GHz processor, NFC support, and more. It could launch in Q3 on AT&T.

Verizon intros V CAST Messages for Android smartphones

Today Verizon Wireless appears to have announced a new V CAST service called V CAST Messages. It allows users to create group text conversations, send location-based messages, and quickly text those that they have recently called. The application is available for the following Android phones only: DROID, DROID 2, DROID X, Ally, DROID Eris, Incredible, and the Fascinate.

Apple may remove home button on new iPad and iPhone, add gesture-based navigation

Apple may remove the home button on future versions of its iPhone and iPad products. Reportedly, iOS 4.3 includes support for gesture-based commands that could be used for navigating to the homescreen, among other things, instead of a hardware button.

Samsung Fascinate update rolling out now, Froyo not included

Samsung today announced that it's rolling out an update for its Verizon Wireless Fascinate, a Galaxy S phone. Sadly, the update only includes a number of fixes and will not be applying Android 2.2 Froyo to your phone. Instead, you'll see some Wi-Fi improvements and optimizations to the LED, GPS, and Hotspot features (among others). There's also fixes to the Feed & Updates widget, email client, voicemail, and more. Update for Sprint Motorola i1 rolling out

Sprint announced today that a maintenance release for the Motorola i1 is being rolled out now. It offers a number of fixes for the phone, including increased YouTube application support, better Hotmail performance over iDEN, the ability to increase font size within the email app, and more. A device that's being called the BlackBerry Dakota was leaked by Boy Genius Report today. The phone reportedly offers a touchscreen display, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a similar form factor to the original Bold. It also has HD-video recording capabilities, support for near-field communications (NFC), and more.

U.S. Cellular Samsung Acclaim gets Android 2.2 Froyo update

Samsung has released its official Android 2.2 Froyo update for U.S. Cellular's Samsung Acclaim. The update is available on Samsung's website, and appears to require a Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7 computer to install a desktop client that will apply the update. The exact features of the update, such as whether or not the device will gain Flash 10.1 support, were not listed.

Huawei launched the new IDEOS X5, an Android 2.2 Froyo powered smartphone destined for some Asian-Pacific markets at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week and we got some one-on-one time with the handset. Windows Phone 7 ROM pops up for HTC HD2

A Windows Phone 7 ROM for the HTC HD2 has been released by a group that calls themselves the DFT (Dark Forces Team). The ROM has some limitations. For one, it won't provide any Windows Live services, which means you won't have access to the Windows Phone Marketplace or Xbox Live. HTC HD2 users interested in the ROM should head over to XDA Developers for more information, although you'll be modding at your own risk.

Shazam and Spotify team up on iOS, Android

Today Shazam and Spotify announced a new partnership. Shazam's users will soon be able to immediately play a song in Spotify after identifying it with Shazam. Shazam will begin integrating it into its free app later this quarter, although it will roll out immediately to Shazam's premium users. The feature is supported on Android smartphones, as well as on the iPhone and the iPod touch.

200 million FaceTime enabled devices in 2012

An analyst with Barclays predicts that Apple will have 200 million FaceTime-equipped devices on the market in 2012. He also believes that an iPad equipped with a camera could hit the market as soon as March or April.
