| HTC Inspire Android 2.2 smartphone headed to Telus Canada Posted: 06 Jan 2011 05:00 PM PST The recently announced HTC Inspire 4G, an Android 2.2 Froyo powered smartphone, appears to be heading to Telus in Canada according to what HTC let slip to PocketNow.com. The Inspire 4G has a 4.3-inch display and an 8 megapixel camera with HD video recording. It's expected to make its debut in the U.S. during the second quarter of this year with AT&T. | Verizon intros Skype Mobile with Video for 4G handsets Posted: 06 Jan 2011 01:37 PM PST Today at the Verizon Wireless CES press event, Skype CEO Tony Bates announced the unveiling of Skype Mobile with Video on Verizon Wireless handsets. Bates claimed that the new service will be deeply integrated with Verizon 4G handsets that feature both forward and rear facing cameras. The application offers one-touch calling that is optimized for the network and is always-on - with no need for Wi-Fi. In half that time, Verizon expects to cover 200 million users with the new network, twice what it has today. | T-Mobile to offer 25 4G devices, more data plans in 2011 Posted: 06 Jan 2011 11:30 AM PST Today at CES in Las Vegas, T-Mobile CEO and President Philipp Humm spoke of the company's 4G mobile lineup and expansion. T-Mobile plans on offering at least 25 new 4G devices this year, starting with the newly announced Dell Streak 7 that will be available in the coming weeks. The Streak 7 supports HSPA+ 21Mbps data, while devices available in the second half of the year will support HSPA+ 42Mbps data. T-Mobile claims that its HSPA+ network currently covers over 200 million users in the U.S., making it by far the largest "4G" network in the country. Dutch site Tweakers.net claims to have handled the phone and noted some UI changes as well as a few new hooks for video chatting, including possible support for the same Google Talk video chat that is highlighted in Android 3.0 Honeycomb for tablets. | AT&T drops Apple iPhone 3GS price to $49 Posted: 06 Jan 2011 06:37 AM PST Today AT&T announced that it was cutting the price of the Apple iPhone 3GS to $49. The $49 Apple iPhone 3GS will be available starting tomorrow to eligible upgrading customers as well as new customers at AT&T retail locations and AT&T's website. The phone requires, at minimum, AT&T's $15 per month limited data plan and a monthly voice plan of $39.99 or higher. AT&T's pricing change could be interpreted as a preemptive move against a coming Verizon iPhone, or merely an attempt by AT&T and Apple to reduce existing stock before the launch of a new device.
