AT&T and T-Mobile customers get free roaming in New York and New Jersey

AT&T and T-Mobile have agreed to open up each other's networks in New York and New Jersey to provide additional service to customers affected by Hurricane Sandy. The two carriers, which were part of a failed attempt to merge permanently last year, share similar GSM and UMTS technology that enables phones to work on both networks. AT&T and T-Mobile have reached an agreement to enable roaming on each other's networks, so customers of either carrier will be able to use the other when necessary. In other words, a T-Mobile customer in an area of New Jersey with no service will be able to roam on AT&T with incurring any charges. The same applies for AT&T customers on T-Mobile network.

Any.DO adds new shortcut for creating tasks within Gmail

Any.DO, a pretty to-do list manager available for Android and Apple iOS, updated today to make it easier to create tasks directly from a Gmail inbox. The new Gmail integration feature works in two ways. One method allows the user to send an email to do@any.do and create a task with the subject of the email serving as the task's name, with the body of the message being converted into a note. The second method involves a Chrome browser extension that automatically creates task reminders. Any.DO is a free app that thrives on the simplicity of the design, so this new extension adds more features without adding complication.

AT&T 4G LTE now available in Tulsa and Ft. Myers

AT&T has flipped the LTE switch in Tulsa, Okla., and Ft. Myers, Fla., today. AT&T announced that residents in those areas should be able to access its growing LTE network, which is considerably faster than its HSPA+ speeds and up to 10 times faster than its 3G speeds. Today's launches increase AT&T's LTE footprint beyond the 60 markets the company reached when it made service available in new areas last month. AT&T promised that the network expand further in dozens more locations before the end of the year.

U.S. Cellular 4G LTE launches in more than 30 markets next week

Hurricane Sandy has disabled 25 percent of cell sites in the U.S., may cause further damage

The FCC reported that Hurricane Sandy damaged 25 percent of the nation's wireless companies' cell sites to the point that the towers are not operational. It may take a considerable amount of time to have those sites, spread out across 158 counties in 10 states, fully functional.

Nexus 7 sells nearly 1 million units per month, says ASUS

The Google Nexus 7 tablet was expected to earn strong sales thanks to its low price. An executive from ASUS, which manufacturers the tablets in partnership with Google, confirms those expectations by saying that the Nexus 7 is close to selling 1 million units per month.

Apple delays iTunes 11 until the end of November

Apple's highly anticipated refresh of iTunes looks like it is causing a bit of a headache for the Cupertino giant. In a statement to AllThingsD, Apple's Tom Neumayr claimed that "The new iTunes is taking longer than expected and we wanted to take a little extra time to get it right." iTunes 11 was scheduled to hit desktops in October but is now scheduled to arrive before the end of November.
