Sony Exmor RS sensor upgrades photo and video quality of smartphone cameras

Sony has announced a new Exmor RS sensor that should improve the photo and video capabilities of mobile phones. The new CMOS image sensor uses a "stacked structure" that makes the design more efficient, and enhances the quality of images captured.

Barnes & Noble launching NOOK devices and digital bookstore in UK this October

Barnes & Noble will begin selling its NOOK reading devices in the United Kingdom this fall. The company announced plans to launch its E Ink readers, including the NOOK Simple Touch and NOOK Simple Touch with Glowlight, in the UK by mid-October. Barnes & Noble has not revealed prices or when it will sell the NOOK Tablet, but the Android-based tablet will also go on sale, according to promotional images posted to its website. In addition to reading devices in the UK, Barnes & Noble will begin selling books, newspapers, magazines, comics, and apps in its NOOK Store later this year.

Motorola files patent complaint against Apple for Siri and other features

LG Optimus Vu switches to NVIDIA Tegra 3 ahead of global launch

LG has announced that the Optimus Vu will launch in select markets in Europe, Asia, Middle East/Africa, and Latin America next month. The phone with a 5-inch, 4:3 display will also see a change in processor when it goes on sale for the first time in areas outside of Asia.

HTC loses $40 million due to OnLive restructuring

HTC announced today that it lost its $40 million investment in online gaming company OnLive when the company sold its assets last Friday. The restructuring made all previous stock options, including those held by HTC, worthless, and raised serious questions about OnLive's viability.
