Faster Facebook app for the iPhone coming soon says NYT

Posted: 27 Jun 2012 12:43 PM PDT

Facebook is planning to released a completely overhauled version of its app for the Apple iPhone says a report by The New York Times. The new Facebook app will supposedly be much faster than the current app, which can be frustratingly slow at times. The NYT says the app's current performance issues stem from the fact that it is basically an HTML5 web app wrapped in a little bit of native code, so it has to constantly pull down large amounts of data from the internet to function. The new version alleviates this by utilizing more native code that is stored on the iPhone itself. The look and feel of the new Facebook app is supposedly the same as the old one, just much much faster. The updated app is expected to be released some time this summer.
