Nokia E6, X7 Symbian Anna smartphones now shipping

Nokia's first phones with the new version of Symbian, dubbed Anna, are now shipping to various parts of the world. The E6, which has a full QWERTY keyboard below a touchscreen, will be available in Europe, Eurasia, Asia/Pacific, as well as the Middle East and Africa. The X7, a slab-style phone with a 4-inch, AMOLED touchscreen, will be heading to Europe, Eurasia, China, India, and other Asia/Pacific countries. Nokia has reassured N8, E7, C7, and C6 owners that the Symbian Anna update will be heading to those phones in the coming months.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer to get Android 3.1 update this week

According to ASUS' UK official Twitter account, the Eee Pad Transformer convertible tablet will be getting an update to Android 3.1 Honeycomb this week. The update will be hitting UK Transformers starting tomorrow, and will be installable over-the-air. Improvements that come with the Android 3.1 update include resizeable widgets on the homescreen, USB and Bluetooth peripheral support, PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) support, and stability improvements and bug fixes. ASUS made sure to point out that the Transformer will support both XBOX 360 and PlayStation controllers. There is no word on when the update will be available for other markets at this time.

Plant vs. Zombies makes its Android debut, free today in Amazon Appstore

Popular iOS game Plants vs. Zombies is making its debut on the Android platform today. In addition, Amazon is offering it for free in its Appstore for Android for today only, a discount of $2.99 off of its regular price. Plants vs. Zombies will be exclusively available in the Amazon Appstore for a few weeks, and then it is expected to be available in the Android Market after that.

Android 2.1 finally arrives for Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 on AT&T

Owners of Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 on AT&T should be happy today, as they are set to receive the best OS from January 2010. Sony Ericsson has finally announced availability of Android 2.1 Eclair for the X10 on AT&T. The update includes such niceties as 720p HD (1280 x 720 pixel) video capture, multi-touch support, continuous autofocus in still and video capture, face detection in video capture, expanded homescreens from three to five, and all of the other enhancements that come from jumping from Android 1.6 Donut to 2.1 Eclair. Users will have plug their X10's into a PC to install the update, but Sony Ericsson has put together a step-by-step guide to help them get it done.

Samsung sells over one million Galaxy S II's in one month in Korea

Samsung has announced that its has sold its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S II, more than a million times in the span of one month in Korea. The Galaxy S II has broken the previous sales record set by the original Galaxy S, which took 70 days to hit the million mark. Samsung attributes the success of the Galaxy S II to its 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, HSPA+ 21Mbps support, and 8.9mm thin design. Ironically, Samsung does not seem to mention the dual-core processor as a factor in its announcement.

NVIDIA demos power of quad-core tablet processor

NVIDIA has released a demo video that highlights the capabilities of its upcoming quad-core processor for tablets, code-named Kal-El. Compared to the currently available dual-core Tegra 2 processor, Kal-El utilizes four cores and a dozen graphics processing cores to deliver stunning, real-time graphics and effects.

California may bring AT&T, T-Mobile buyout under review

The State of California has revealed plans that may result in a formal investigation of the proposed buyout of T-Mobile USA by AT&T. The California Public Utilities Commission has stated that it wants more information regarding the merger "in light of relevant state law and public policies." A state could block the merger within its own boundaries, even if it receives federal approval.

T-Mobile is reminding its customers that its Sidekick services will be shut down at the end of this month. The Sidekick services are used by all Sidekick devices except for the new Sidekick 4G, which is not impacted by this change.

Google yanks game console emulators from Android Market

The Android developer responsible for emulators of many popular mobile gaming platforms has said that his account has been shut down unexpectedly, and that all of his applications can no longer be found in the Android Market. Yong Zhang, the developer of popular emulators suchas Nesoid, N64oid, and Gameboid, told Engadget that his account, and apps, were uncermoniously pulled from Google's app market without warning or contact from Google. Two of Yong Zhang's apps had been pulled from the market after Sega filed a complaint with Google. The developer has temporarily moved his apps to the SlideME app store.

RIM has announced that carrier billing in the BlackBerry App World is now available for T-Mobile, A1 Telekom, and Vodafone UK customers. This gives users another option when it comes time to purchase an app, as they can now have the cost of the app added to their next month's cell phone bill. Developers appreciate carrier billing as well, as more payment options make it easier to sell their apps in the App World.
