Without much elaboration, the police reported that they plan to look into Google-owned AdMob, alleging that the mobile ad network illegally collected the data. BlackBerry 7 may be ignored for lack of Android apps, Flash

Posted: 03 May 2011 11:28 AM PDT

It looks as though BlackBerry enthusiasts have a test in patience ahead of them, as BlackBerry 7 OS will not be offering Android apps or Flash support. This might come as a bit of a surprise to some, since RIM is developing an Android virtual machine for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. Even more surprising is the fact that current phones running BlackBerry 7 OS won't support Flash, even though the new BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900's 1.2 GHz processor meets Flash hardware requirements.

Posted: 03 May 2011 10:57 AM PDT

Both SK Telecom and KT Corp have reported the depletion of their inventory just a week after the sale was launched. In the meantime, Apple's online store in Korea has not made any changes to its iPad 2 web page, with an estimated 1 to 2 weeks shipping time. South Korean Galaxy S II pre-order numbers put iPhone 4's to shame

Posted: 03 May 2011 10:03 AM PDT

South Korea seems to be somewhat infatuated with the Samsung Galaxy S II, as pre-orders for the dual-core Android smartphone in Samsung's home market have surpassed pre-orders for Apple's dominant iPhone 4. Samsung reports that between Monday and Friday of last week, the company received over 200,000 pre-orders for its latest smartphone, blowing the iPhone 4's first-week numbers out of the water. However, it's only fair to note that the 110,000 iPhone 4 pre-orders in its first week all came from one carrier, whereas the Galaxy S II is available for pre-order from three different South Korean carriers. In any case, Samsung was careful to note that 10,000 pre-orders came in during the first 29 minutes of availability, a number that doubled to 20,000 just 35 minutes later. The company expects to sell 10 million units of the Galaxy S II worldwide this year, which seems to be a somewhat lazy goal as Samsung already sold 10 million units of the Galaxy S in 2010. The Galaxy S II may be making its way to the States rather shortly, so those interested in the highly-anticipated smartphone should check out our hands-on video review.

Posted: 03 May 2011 07:59 AM PDT

Just yesterday, RIM unveiled the first-ever BlackBerry Bold devices to feature a touchscreen: the Bold 9900 and the Bold 9930. Along with T-Mobile customers here in the U.S., Canadian Virgin Mobile subscribers can go ahead and get excited, as the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 is headed to the carrier in "late summer." Virgin Mobile has been the only carrier to officially announce the smartphone, but we expect that Virgin's parent company, Bell, may also snatch up the new BlackBerry smartphone. Interested customers, and definitely those on the fence, should check out Dan Seifert's hands-on video with the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 from the BlackBerry World conference. Unfortunately, we have no pricing information as of yet, but we'll be sure to keep you posted with details as they come in.

MetroPCS Communications today announced its financial and operational results for the quarter, reporting approximately 28 percent growth in adjusted quarterly earnings compared to the same quarter of last year. The carrier closed 2011's first quarter with around 8.9 million subscribers, due to Dallas-based MetroPCS adding over 725,000 new subscribers, breaking company records. "Building on the strong momentum we had throughout 2010, continued interest in our 'Wireless for All' plans and in the significant uptake of our Android smartphones, total subscriber growth was 21 percent year over year," said Roger D. Linquist, CEO at MetroPCS. Linquist added that he believes consumer interest in mobile internet (whether it be on social networks, sharing media, or surfing the web) will only increase, "specifically within the Android platform," and assured us that MetroPCS customers will get more access to premium smartphones, and be able to enjoy them over MetroPCS's 4G LTE network.

Best Buy quietly offers pre-sale for HTC EVO 3D

Posted: 03 May 2011 06:49 AM PDT

According to reporting done by Android Central, at least one Best Buy, possibly many, are offering up the HTC EVO 3D smartphone for pre-order, even though the electronics giant never actually told anyone it'd be doing so. Though the offer has not been publicly advertised or promoted in any way, a company memo reveals that the offer is only to be presented to customers who specifically ask about the dual-core Android-powered HTC EVO 3D. "This is meant to capture only those customers coming into our stores inquiring about the EVO 3D who are otherwise not purchasing another phone today," states the memo. "In other words, if a customer asks, you can tell him or her about the pre-sale. Otherwise, mums the word" Unfortunately, for Best Buy the word is out, not mum. But hey, the truth shall set you free.
