Telmap first to offer BlackBerry Messenger integration

RIM announced some time ago that software developers for the BlackBerry OS platform would be able to integrate BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) functionality into their apps via the BBM Social Platform. Telmap is the first company to take advantage of this new capability by building in BBM functions into the latest version of its navigation app.

Motorola ATRIX 4G, HTC Inspire 4G finally get HSUPA love from AT&T

Just in the nick of time to meet its "April 2011" promise, AT&T has made software updates available for the Motorola ATRIX 4G and HTC Inspire 4G Android smartphones that enable HSUPA data connections. This will allows users to upload data at a much higher rate than they had been able to previously. Both the ATRIX 4G and Inspire 4G have had the capability to utilize HSUPA since they were launched, but was just deactivated by AT&T. Users should be receiving notifications on their phones over the next few weeks alerting them that the software update is available, and then they will have to connect to a Wi-Fi network to download it. The ATRIX 4G has two updates that need to be installed in order to get the full speed access. In addition to the higher data speeds, the updates for both the ATRIX 4G and the Inspire 4G will fix bugs and improve overall performance.

An unboxing and video tour of the new Samsung DROID Charge for Verizon Wireless. The DROID Charge is the second 4G LTE-capable smartphone to come out for Verizon. It has a gorgeous, 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus screen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. A 1GHz single-core Hummingbird processor powers Android 2.2 Froyo with Samsung's TouchWiz interface. The Charge also has an 8 megapixel rear camera and 1.3 megapixel front camera.

Worldwide app industry to see 44 billion downloads by 2016

A new report from ABI Research estimates that the worldwide app industry is on a steady course to hit 44 billion cumulative downloads by the year 2016. Adoption of the Android and Windows Phone 7 platforms has boosted app downloads for both platforms, catching them up to the dominant force in mobile applications, Apple's App Store. The increasing group of smartphone and tablet owners will also contribute to the growth of the mobile app ecosystem.

Nokia's smartphone market share lost to Apple, Samsung

Now that most of the financial reports for the first quarter are in, we can see how the market as a whole has been affected. The biggest loser in the smartphone market seems to be Nokia, with Apple and Samsung scooping up most everything it lost.
