Samsung loses ground to Xiaomi in China

It has not been a good few weeks for Samsung as the company's mobile division has been subjected to several rounds of bad news. It is not over yet though as it emerged today that the Korean company's hold in China has been lessened by Xiaomi, a home grown company in the country.

Sure, it may not be the device we thought it would be, but we are still looking forward to the Samsung Galaxy Alpha launching this month. If nothing else, this is the first smartphone Samsung has made from metal, so even if it does not live up to earlier expectations, it is at least a curiosity. Today we have the chance to take a closer look at some of the metal that will be used with perhaps the best shot of the Alpha in the wild we have seen yet.

Kogan's Agora 4G arrives with Moto G baiting specs and price

Very good budget devices are becoming more common, but the market is still a growing one and when we think of the best affordable handsets a few select names spring to mind. Chief among those is Motorola's Moto G smartphone, a handset that packs a bunch of cool specs, a nice price tag, and has recently had a bump to include LTE. However, Australian company Kogan reckons it can offer a better deal the Motorola with a similarly designed and spec'd smartphone.

Huawei's IFA bound Ascend Mate 3

Huawei is busying itself for the end of the year with a number of new smartphones set to hit the market over the coming months. One of those devices will be the Ascend Mate 3 and according to reports today it will be a standout device with high end specs, upping the ante from the mid-range Ascend Mate 2. It has also shown up on AnTuTu for benchmark testing, showing it to be a very good performer.

Samsung schedules Galaxy Note 4 launch and sends invites

As we told you last week, Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 4 phablet flagship at the IFA show in Berlin in September. Our information just got the official stamp as Samsung confirmed that an event is scheduled for the German trade show, with the company sending out invites for a press event.

If you visit tech websites such as Mobile Burn and our contemporaries, then you are probably familiar with @Evleaks as he is responsible for hundreds of leaks for upcoming smartphones and tablets. So much so that most mobile oriented websites have cited him in articles dozens and in some case hundreds of times. However, we will not be featuring any more as the man behind Evleaks has decided to stop leaking devices, or as he put it "retire".

Android downs iOS for the first time as the most used platform

Android has spread around the globe like an infectious (oh come on, I like Android), like something very popular, so much so that it dominates the mobile platform world in terms of market share. However, despite its huge presence, Android has so far failed to usurp Apple's iOS as the most used platform.
