Apple patent claim against Motorola dismissed with prejudice Posted: 05 Nov 2012 12:41 PM PST Google-owned subsidiary Motorola says a federal judge has thrown out Apple's lawsuit claiming that Motorola used unfair practices related to patent licensing issues. Sony Reader for iPad and iPhone now available in App Store Posted: 05 Nov 2012 09:55 AM PST Sony has released a version of its Sony Reader app for Apple iPhone and iPad devices. Sony Reader is a rebranded version of the Bluefire Reader app that links with a user's library in the Sony eBook store. Purchases cannot be made within the app because of guidelines instituted by Apple, but the app support complete access to eBooks purchased online. It also features adjustable font sizes, bookmarks, personalized library organization, and the ability to read in Day or Night modes. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 coming to AT&T Nov. 9 Posted: 05 Nov 2012 08:37 AM PST AT&T has announced that it will begin selling the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 beginning Friday November 9. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, which has been available as a Wi-Fi only tablet since May, will be able to access AT&T's 4G LTE and HSPA+ network when the device goes on sale later this week. The tablet has a 10.1-inch screen, a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, a 3 megapixel camera, a VGA front-facing camera, and a 7,000 mAh battery. AT&T will sell the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for $499.99. European Commission adds additional radio spectrum for 4G technology Posted: 05 Nov 2012 06:52 AM PST The European Commission today voted to add an additional 120MHz to the radio spectrum around the 2GHz band. The bands currently used for UMTS will be reallocated for 4G technologies, which will enable "harmonised technical conditions to allow coexistence between different technologies." In other words, the move will make it easier for companies to purchase complementary spectrum and enable more efficient LTE networks. The commission notes that this decision will pave the way for member states of the European Union to have up to twice the amount of 4G spectrum that is currently available in the United States. All EU member states must open the 120 MHz spectrum no later than June 30, 2014. Read the full story here. |

Apple sells 3 million iPad minis and fourth-gen iPads in three days Posted: 05 Nov 2012 05:46 AM PST Apple sold an average of 1 million units of its iPad Mini and fourth-generation iPad tablets during its launch weekend. The American manufacturer today announced that it sold a total of three million iPad minis and fourth-gen iPads since Friday. Apple notes that recent sales double the amount of third-gen iPads sold during its opening weekend; however, the two launch events cannot truly be compared because Apple failed to break down individual sales totals of the iPad mini and the iPad fourth generation. CEO Tim Cook notes that Apple "practically sold out of iPad minis" during the launch of the Wi-Fi only models. iPads with mobile data capabilities will launch later this month.
