ITC bans all Motorola Android devices for infringing Microsoft's patent

The International Trade Commission in the U.S. has ruled that all of Motorola's Android devices are infringing upon a patent owned by Microsoft and has issued a ban on the importation of the devices. The Commission upheld an earlier ruling by an Administrative Law Judge in December 2011.

Sprint offers $100 trade-in credit for your old iPhone

Sprint has announced a new promotion for customers purchasing a new Apple iPhone 4S smartphone. Those that own an older iPhone from a different carrier can trade in their device and get a $100 credit towards the purchase of the new iPhone 4S. This offer starts today and runs for a limited time, though Sprint did not specify when it will end. It is only open to new Sprint customers and can be redeemed in stores or online. T-Mobile: Customers don't want "one-size-fits-all" shared data plans

There has been quite a bit of talk this week concerning shared data plans, since Verizon Wireless CFO Fran Shammo revealed that the carrier would be putting a high priority on them when they launch this summer. Shared data plans have also been on AT&T's roadmap for quite a while, as well. But T-Mobile hasn't announced any intentions to offer them, and it doesn't look like it will anytime soon either.

Motorola refreshes Android 4.0 ICS upgrade timetable for its smartphones, tablets

The last time we heard from Motorola concerning its plans to upgrade its line of devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, it was pretty vague as to when the upgrades would arrive for many of the smartphones and tablets on the list. Now the company has provided updated information about its plans, and it may even release some of the updates before this quarter is out.

Sprint launches STS service to help those with speech disabilities place calls

Sprint has announced the launch of a new "speech to speech" (STS) service that makes it easier for those with speech disabilities to place calls through an operator assistant. The My Wireless STS service allows users to just dial *787 on their phone to place an operator assisted call. The operator works as a middle man, patiently listening to the words spoken by the customer and relaying them to the person on the receiving end of the call, repeating and clarifying when needed. The free service is available to users 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

ZTE fesses up to security vulnerability in Score smartphone

ZTE has acknowledged that a security vulnerability exists in the Score smartphone sold by Cricket in the U.S. The vulnerability could allow a malicious attacker to gain control of the device and access a user's personal information.

Estimates peg Samsung Galaxy S III pre-orders as high as 9 million

Samsung is set to launch its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III, in a few markets at the end of this month, and pre-orders have already begun for both carriers and consumers. The Korea Economic Daily, a local South Korean newspaper, has estimated that pre-orders for the highly-anticipated device stand at more than 9 million from 100 carriers across the world.

Microsoft reminds users to upgrade to Windows Phone 7.5 - or else

Microsoft has posted a reminder to its Windows Phone Blog to tell users that they need to upgrade to Windows Phone 7.5, if they haven't done so already, in order to install apps from the Marketplace. Last month, the company revealed that those still using Windows Phone 7 would not be able to access the Windows Phone Marketplace to purchase and install new apps at some date in the future. Microsoft still hasn't said when that date will be, but we expect that it is coming soon.

Judge orders Apple, HTC to meet August 28 to work out patent issues

Yesterday, a U.S. District Court judge in Delaware ordered lawyers for Apple and HTC to meet later this year in an attempt to reach a settlement over the patent dispute between the two companies. Late last year, Apple won a decision from the ITC stating that HTC had violated Apple's patents with its devices, and that has resulted in a hold-up in the delivery of the One X and EVO 4G LTE smartphones into the U.S.
