| Sprint pushing out HTC EVO 4G Android 2.2 Froyo .3 to .6 update Posted: 11 Aug 2010 04:59 AM PDT Sprint is pushing out the official release of Android 2.2 "Froyo" version 3.26.561.6 to those who decided to download and update their device with the early, and unofficial, 3.26.561.3 version of the firmware. | Palm webOS 1.4.5 rolling out to Sprint Palm Pre, Pixi Posted: 11 Aug 2010 04:52 AM PDT Sprint is rolling out Palm webOS 1.4.5 to its Palm Pre and Pixi smartphones. The update fixes power use and battery optimization, allows users to send MMS texts from the video application along with a new video trim feature, and corrects web text entry. Those who registered for a pre-sale can order the device this Thursday. The Dell Streak will cost $299.99 with a 2-year AT&T contract or $549.99 without a contract. | Vodafone 360 software will be optional in HTC Desire Android 2.2 update Posted: 10 Aug 2010 11:35 AM PDT Earlier this month we reported that some Vodafone HTC Desire owners were frustrated with Vodafone's recent software update because it added Vodafone 360 applications to the phone that weren't easily removed. Today Vodafone made a post in its customer forums that said, with the Android 2.2 update, customers will be able to decide whether or not they want the Vodafone 360 applications installed. Peter Skillman was responsible for the design of the Palm Pre and had been with the company for 11 years. It's unknown where Skillman is headed next. Tech Crunch pointed out that four of the top individuals who worked on the Palm Pre have all left. | T-Mobile USA faces class action lawsuit over unlimited data plans Posted: 10 Aug 2010 08:53 AM PDT A class-action lawsuit has been filed in California against T-Mobile USA. A subscriber named Trent Alvarez brought the case to court because he claims "Nowhere on [its] contract does T-Mobile USA disclose its invisible data cap." After surpassing 10GB, T-Mobile limited Alvarez's throughput to just 50Kbps. According to CourtHouseNews.com, Alvarez believe's T-Mobile's advertisements of "unlimited" data plans are false advertising. As of today,T-Mobile USA clearly lists a 5GB "data per month" cap on its "overage free plan" advertisements. Read the full story here. |
| First Android SMS Trojan makes its debut Posted: 10 Aug 2010 08:11 AM PDT Today Kaspersky Lab, a security development firm, announced that the first SMS based Trojan malware application has been detected on an Android smartphone. The Trojan is called Trojan-SMS.ANdroidOS.FakePlayer.a and it has already infected some phones. It's disguised as a media player application and prompts users to install a 13KB .APK file. It then sends SMS texts to premium numbers, resulting in high charges. To avoid being infected, Kaspersky Lab recommends paying close attention to application requests when installing new apps. The carrier also said that it will launch a special edition R2-D2 version of the phone, for Star Wars fans, beginning in September. "The special version of the phone will feature exclusive Star Wars content and external hardware designed to look like the trusty Droid from the film saga. Visitors to the upcoming Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando, Fla., can see a preview of the limited edition phone and sign up to receive alerts when the phone is ready for sale," Verizon Wireless said. | Frash app delivers Adobe Flash support to jailbroken iPhone 4, iOS 4 devices Posted: 10 Aug 2010 05:29 AM PDT An application called Frash originally launched to add Adobe Flash support on the iOS 4 Apple iPad. Today, that same application is available for many other jailbroken iOS 4 devices, including the iPhone 4. The application was created by a hacker named Comex, and it works with Apple's ARMv7 devices (ie. the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, etc.) Instructions for installing Frash are provided by Grant Pannell on his personal website.
