RIM shows limited beta of BlackBerry Desktop Software 6

Microsoft confirms WP7 initial hardware partners: ASUS, Dell, HTC, LG, Samsung

During an interview conducted by Pocket-Lint, Microsoft's Greg Sullivan confirmed that Samsung, LG, HTC, ASUS, and Dell will all be rolling out Windows Phone 7 based smartphones when the platform makes its retail debut later this year in time for the holiday shopping season.

Google increases dialing speed for Google Voice on Android and BlackBerry

Today Google rolled out an updated version of its Google Voice application for Android and BlackBerry smartphones that reduces the system's reliance on data for placing calls. Voice now makes use of unique access phone numbers for each contact called so that it doesn't have to query a Google server before actually dialing, speeding up the call initiation process.

The Virgin Mobile MiFi 2200 by Novatel is a pre-paid portable 3G Wi-Fi hotspot that can be paid for on an as-needed basis, requiring no expensive monthly contract. Data service starts at $10 for 10 days with 100MB of data and goes up to $60 for 30 days and 5GB of data.

Microsoft Windows Phone 7 smartphones to offer only Bing search by default

In an interview with Pocket-Lint, Microsoft's Greg Sullivan said that the upcoming Windows Phone 7 smartphone platform would use only Bing for search, due to its heavy integration. Sullivan added that other search providers should be able to offer search apps for WP7 phone in the future. This comes as no real surprise and is little different from what Google has done with Android.

Barnes & Noble NOOK e-book reader for Android now available

Today Barnes & Noble announced the availability of its NOOK e-book reader application for the Android smartphone platform. NOOK users will be able to access the B&N online eBookstore and their e-book purchases from anywhere using the application. The NOOK app is available for any smartphone running Android 1.6 or later, and can be downloaded for free from the Android Market.
