HTC One M8 getting Sense Update Now (Preparing for Lollipop)

HTC is almost certainly readying Android Lollipop 5.0 for its HTC One M8 flagship, the company said the update would come by the end of this month. The first move towards that is now happening as the Taiwanese company is updating its own Sense UI to a Lollipop ready version, with its international One M8 getting the patch now.

Apple to Top Xiaomi in China

Things really could not be going any better for Apple. The company has announced record profits and record sales of the iPhone, while the device has enjoyed considerable growth in key markets since the company switched to a larger screen. The previously cool Chinese market has gone red hot for Cupertino with fantastic sales, and now research company Canalys says Apple is now the premier smartphone maker in China.

ZTE Launches Blade S6

ZTE has been rolling out a few budget friendly smartphones of late and the Chinese company is at it again with the S6. The handset is the latest low end smartphone to tackle Xiaomi and Meizu, the latter company launched the Blue Charm for $112 today.

Russian Galaxy Note 3 Getting Android 5.0 Now

Most of Samsung's handsets are still waiting on the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop, including the company's latest Galaxy Note 4 flagship. Ironically the older Galaxy Note 3 looks like it will beat its newer sibling to the punch, with SamMobile reporting that the Russian version of the handsets (SM-N900) is now receiving the bump to Android 5.0.

Simply put, no other smartphone company has ever put together the kind of earnings call that Apple offered last night. Cupertino sold 74 million iPhones and raked in $18 billion in profit, selling more devices, at a higher cost, and for more money. However, it was not just a record breaking quarter for the tech industry, it was the best quarter in business... ever.

Samsung is Huawei's Biggest Rival

Xiaomi has made a huge impact in the Chinese market and because Huawei is also from China, it is easy to think that the both are huge rivals. However, according to Huawei chief Richard Yu, Xiaomi is not actually the company's main rival, instead that accolade goes to Korean giant and market leader, Samsung.

AT&T Continued Growth in 2014

AT&T has its sights set on becoming the top carrier in North America after buying Nextel Mexico earlier this week and the company is coming off a strong 2014 to bolster those prospects. The second largest carrier in the US added 1.9 million wireless customers through the fourth quarter and 5.6 million through 2014, while operating income stood at $3.2 billion for the last calendar period of last year.

Apple Sold 74.5 Million iPhones in Q4

Yesterday we wrote how one KGI analyst said that Apple would announce sales of 73 million units of the iPhone through Q4, topping general predictions. As it turned out, Apple announced its earnings call last night and the company surpassed even Ming-Chi Kuo's top end prediction with a massive 74.5 million iPhones selling through the Holiday Season quarter.

Samsung Z1 Sells 50,000 Units in 10 Days

Samsung launched the Z1, the company's first ever Tizen based smartphone, earlier this month and there are some contrasting reports about how it's doing. Just last week, Reuters said that the handset was struggling to find its feet in India, where it is exclusively available at the moment. A new report this week from Business Korea is contradicting that and saying the Samsung Z1 is actually doing well.
