Google I/O Developer Conference scheduled for May 15-17, 2013 Posted: 04 Dec 2012 11:08 AM PST Google has traditionally held its annual Google I/O Developer Conference in May, but the event was pushed back to June this year in order to accommodate schedule conflicts and a desire to extend the event into a three-day affair. Google I/O 2013 will once again be a three-day event, but the conference will return to its usual May calendar apperance next year. Google today announced that Google I/O 2013 will take place May 15-17 at the Moscone West Center in San Francisco. More details will be released in February as the registration period nears. Facebook Messenger will no longer require a Facebook account for group messaging app Posted: 04 Dec 2012 07:46 AM PST Facebook today announced that it will remove the requirement that users of its Messenger app have a Facebook account. While Messenger has attracted millions of users because of the ability to send free messages on Android and Apple iOS, it has not attracted as many users as other mobile messaging clients like WhatsApp. Eliminating the Facebook requirements has the potential to expose Messenger to a larger audience that can take advantage of the app's group messaging and photo sharing features. Removing membership requirements is not available in all countries yet, but an update to the messaging app should arrive today to increase access for others. Read the full story here. |

Apple hiring former TI employees to work on its chipsets Posted: 04 Dec 2012 06:44 AM PST Texas Instruments announced earlier this year that it would ease out of mobile chipset development because of increased competition and clients who began designing their own chips. Nokia will sell then lease Espoo headquarters to raise cash Posted: 04 Dec 2012 05:46 AM PST Nokia today announced that it will sell its head office building in Espoo, Finland for 170 million EUR (US $222 million).
