Facebook Android app ditches HTML5 and is twice as fast in version 2.0

Facebook's Android app has earned more than 1 million 1-star reviews for several perceived faults, including its sluggishness. The social networking giant today announced a new version of the app that addresses speed concerns and is "twice as fast" when looking at photos and timelines. Facebook has previously claimed that its app would be much faster, only for users to continue to complain, but the new app rebuilt with native code should be quicker than its HTML5 incarnation. AT&T's 4G LTE network has expanded to eight new cities spread throughout the United States. AT&T's LTE footprint now reaches Little Rock, Ark.; Moscow, Idaho; Hattiesburg and Starkville, Miss.; Reno, Nev.; Allentown-Bethlehem, Penn.; Richmond, Va.; and Pullman, Wash. The latest updates extend AT&T's network to nearly 120 markets and more than 150 million people.

Amazon Instant Video app arrives for iPhone and iPod touch

Amazon has already released an iPad app to let Amazon Instant Video customers stream movies and television shows, and the app is now available for Apple iPhone and iPod touch users. Amazon Instant Video streams more than 140,000 videos that can be purchased or rented. The app maintains a Watchlist queue, has 30,000 free videos for Amazon Prime members, and has Whispersync to save a user's place when switching between the web, tablet, TV, or iPhone. Sprint offers $2.1 billion to acquire full stake in Clearwire

Sprint has offered to pay $2.1 billion to acquire Clearwire Corp. Sprint, which already owns more than 50 percent of Clearwire, seeks to acquire the remaining shares of the struggling company it has already invested millions of dollars. Flush with cash from its investment from SoftBank, Sprint seeks to acquire Clearwire to gain the company's assets and airwave licenses in order to improve its 4G LTE network. Analysts estimate that Sprint may have to raise its current $2.90 per share offering to more than $5 in order to gain control of Clearwire.
