FTC amends COPPA to ban apps from collecting photos, videos, or geolocation of children without parental consent

The FTC recently repeated its call for all stakeholders in the mobile app industry to establish best practices for collecting user data in apps and services that target children, and the agency today went one step further by changing a law meant to protect the privacy of children.

Sprint adds 36 more markets set to receive 4G LTE next year

Sprint has slowly marched toward its goal of expanding its 4G LTE network into 130 markets by the end of next year, a long way from the 49 that it managed to launch already. The carrier today announced an additional 36 that will launch in the "coming months."

BlackBerry 10 will launch on all major UK carriers in early 2013

BlackBerry 10 will largely determine the future success or failure of RIM, so the company will be pleased to see that the major carriers in the UK today announced plans to support the BB10 launch. EE today confirmed that it will offer BlackBerry 10 devices on its 4G network, as well as on its Orange and T-Mobile brands. O2 and Vodafone also sent messages stating its intention to carry BB10 next year, and Three has completed the list of top carriers who will have the next generation of BlackBerry devices available next year. Details about price and availability will be shared at next month's launch event.
