Rdio Windows Phone app now compatible with Windows Phone 8, adds new features

Music streaming service Rdio has updated its Windows Phone app to make it compatible with Windows Phone 8 handsets like the Nokia Lumia 920 and Windows Phone 8X by HTC. The app has also improved online streaming; enhanced the interface by adding album art to the lock screen, an end-to-end tile Now Playing tile on the Start screen; and added recommendations. Music fans can download Rdio from the Windows Phone Store, but a subscription is required to stream music and store songs offline.Download Rdio for Windows Phone

RIM sells NewBay $55 million, millions less than it paid to acquire the company

In October 2011, RIM paid a reported $100 million to acquire cloud services company NewBay. It has since sold the subsidiary to Synchronoss for $55.5 million in cash. RIM did not see a return on its investment in NewBay, but the company made the sale as part of a strategic shift to focus on its core business of launching the BlackBerry 10 operating system and its BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Providing online services to clients like AT&T, T-Mobile, and LG was not an essential part of its plans, so RIM sold NewBay to drop the expenses and focus on BB10.

Instagram today revealed the most popular places that people have taken photos in 2012. The popular photo-sharing app flourished at the world's famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and popular tourist destinations like Times Square, but neither location earned the top spot.

Samsung ChatON Android app adds message sync across devices, sending multiple images, and new tablet features

The Android version of Samsung's cross-platform instant messaging client ChatON has been updated to add continuous communication across phones and tablets. ChatON now supports simultaneous messages across devices, so anyone signed-in to a Samsung account on a phone and tablet will receive messages on both devices. There are also new options to change font style, send multiple images at once, and send animated icons. The ChatON app for Android tablets has been updated to support the free push-to-talk feature Walkie-talkie. Lytro is a camera known for its unique ability to refocus an image that a camera has already captured, but some may have asked why isn't there a Lytro camera for smartphones? T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 810 now free with two-year agreement

T-Mobile USA is temporarily making its midrange Windows Phone 8 smartphone free with eligible two-year agreements. The carrier now has the Nokia Lumia 810, which normally costs $149.99, available for free online through a limited time offer. The Lumia 810 features a 4.3-inch display, a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, an 8 megapixel camera, and Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps solutions.
