AT&T has confirmed that it will carry the Samsung Galaxy Camera later this year. While it's common for AT&T to announce a new Android smartphone or tablet, the Galaxy Camera is the first Android-powered smart camera AT&T will offer.

HP won't release a smartphone in 2013, despite CEO's previous comments

HP CEO Meg Whitman said in an on-camera interview that her company has to offer a smartphone because that is becoming the primary computing device. Despite that assessment, Whitman now says that HP will not release a smartphone in 2013.

Microsoft to unveil Windows Phone 8 October 29

Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 will finally debut on October 29. Though Nokia and HTC have held press conferences to announce Windows Phone 8 handsets, neither company has allowed attending press to spend any time exploring the software. Microsoft will be the one to officially introduce Windows Phone 8 at a launch event later this month. Microsoft has sent MobileBurn an invitation for an October 29 event in San Francisco that will be Windows Phone 8's first showing since Microsoft released the software to manufacturers last month.

Samsung so far promises Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update only to Samsung Galaxy S III

Samsung has posted a support page detailing which phones can expect to see Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Unsurprisingly, the chart so far lists only phones that have already been updated (the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S 4G), and the one phone that any reasonable person expects to be updated, the Galaxy S III. Samsung says that an update is coming soon to Galaxy S III on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular, but no date has been shared for any carrier.

AT&T has announced that the Pantech Burst and Pantech Element will both receive a firmware upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich beginning today. The Pantech phone and tablet will add improved performance, increased app compatibility, resizable widgets, swipe-away notifications, new camera options, and much more. Nokia's launch plans for its flagship Lumia 920 phone have finally been made clear in the U.S. AT&T announced today it will carry the Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia 920 as an exclusive, and it will offer the Nokia Lumia 820 as well. AT&T has not disclosed how much either phone will cost, but it has announced that it will release both phones in November.

Facebook reaches 1 billion active users, 600 million on mobile

Facebook has more than 1 billion active users, which is double the number of users reported two years ago, and 10 times as many active users as four years ago. The social networking giant reports that 14 percent of the global population are active Facebook members.
