AT&T Optimus G launches Nov 2. for $199

AT&T has announced the official release date and price for the LG Optimus G, the first phone with a quad-core processor released in the United States. The carrier says it will sell the LG Optimus G for $199 on a two-year agreement on November 2. Pre-orders for the device will be available here beginning October 16. LG has already announced the specifications for the Optimus G, which has a 4.7-inch IPS+ display, 2GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera, and a quad-core 1.5GHz processor. AT&T will launch the Optimus G with Android 4.0, though the company has not confirmed if or when it will update the phone to Android 4.1.

T-Mobile upgrades Kansas City 4G network to support faster speeds on iPhone

T-Mobile announced last month that it will begin adjusting its network coverage in select markets that will enable enhanced 4G speeds on its HSPA+ network. Las Vegas was the first city to be updated, and the company announced today that it has completed service adjustments in Kansas City. T-Mobile is refarming its former 2G spectrum to build enhanced HSPA+ coverage and faster speeds on unlocked devices, including the Apple iPhone. Kansas City residents should notice faster downloads, increased signal strength, and better voice coverage at popular locations in the surrounding Jackson, Johnson, and Wyandotte counties. T-Mobile expects to announce more cities with network enhancements later this year.

Microsoft announces Xbox Music streaming service for Windows Phone 8, Android, and iOS

Microsoft today announced a new cloud-based music streaming service that will deliver millions of songs to its Xbox 360 gaming console. In an effort to combat Spotify, Xbox Music will also stream music on Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, Android and, Apple iOS devices.

Jolla names new CEO ahead of Sailfish OS unveiling

LG provides Android 4.1 Jelly Bean release details for select phones

LG has announced which of its phones models will be first to receive firmware upgrades to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. LG will begin updating select phones next month, starting with the LG Optimus LTE II. The company will then follow with updates for the Optimus G in December, and the Optimus Vu and Optimus Vu II in the first quarter of 2013. All dates are for the Korean market, but rollouts for Asian and European markets should not be too far behind. Carrier-tied models in the U.S. may take longer because they require approval from network operators before the software can be installed on the device.

Amazon may buy Texas Instruments' mobile chip business

SoftBank officially buys 70 percent stake of Sprint for $20 billion

Japanese carrier SoftBank has reached a deal to purchase a controlling interest in U.S. carrier Sprint. The 1.57 trillion yen (US $20.1 billion) transaction will make SoftBank one of the world's largest wireless internet providers.
