Microsoft's Andy Lees no longer head of Windows Phone

Microsoft has announced that it is transferring the head of its Windows Phone division, Andy Lees, to a new position, and that it has assigned a new person to take over most of his responsibilities in the Windows Phone department. Lees will still report to CEO Steve Ballmer, but he now has the job of "driving maximum impact in 2012 with Windows Phone and Windows 8." Terry Myerson, a corporate vice president in the Windows Phone division, will assume the responsibilities that Lees is leaving behind, but it does not seem like he will receive Lees' title of division president at this time. Myerson will be "responsible for Windows Phone development, marketing, and other business functions."

Adobe releases security and performance update for Android users

Apple iTunes updated with Match and audio fixes

Apple has issued an update for iTunes that includes fixes for its new Match service that lets users match their existing music collections with the iTunes catalog in the cloud for $24.99 a year. The update also includes a fix for audio distortion when playing or importing CDs. The update brings iTunes to version 10.5.2 is available through iTunes' update service.

The Motorola DROID XYBOARD 10.1 and 8.2 are the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE versions of Motorola's XOOM 2 tablets that are sold in Europe. They offer very similar specs apart from their screen sizes and the fact that the 10.1 inch model comes equipped with a stylus and supports handwriting recognition. Both feature dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and feature 16 or 32GB of internal storage (a 64GB 10.1 model is also available). They go on sale starting on December 20 starting at a cost of $429.99 for the 16GB 8.2-inch model and $529.99 for the 16GB 10.1-inch model.

T-Mobile adds Wi-Fi calling to HTC Amaze 4G with software update

T-Mobile is delivering a software update to the HTC Amaze 4G today that adds a number of improvements to the device, including Wi-Fi calling. Wi-Fi calling, which has been available on other T-Mobile phones for some time, allows users to make phone calls over their own Wi-Fi network, saving their plan's minutes for when they are away from home. The Wi-Fi calling feature is also useful for those that live in areas where T-Mobile's network is not especially strong. The update is being delivered to users in stages, and users should get notifications on their phones when it is ready to be downloaded and installed.

Dish Networks expresses interest in T-Mobile if AT&T deal collapses

AT&T plans for a buyout of T-Mobile USA have been hit with more than a few snags on the road to approval and completion. In light of that, and the distinct possibility that the deal may not be completed at all, Dish Networks has stepped forward to say that it would be interested in possibly making a deal with T-Mobile to merge the two companies' spectrum assets if the AT&T purchase falls through.

AT&T, Justice Department request stay on trial over proposed T-Mobile deal

Today the Justice Department, AT&T, and Deutsche Telekom filed for a stay on the lawsuit concerning the proposed purchase of T-Mobile USA by AT&T. The parties asked to withhold any court proceedings until January 18, 2012 in order for them to reevaluate all of their options concerning the merger.

It features a two-layer design that uses a shock-absorbing rubber liner and a hard plastic exterior. It also has a unique sliding cover that protects the iPhone's screen when it is closed. O2 debuts smartphone leasing program with iPhone 4S

Barnes & Noble outs software update for NOOK Color

The new NOOK Tablet may be its darling now, but Barnes & Noble hasn't forgotten about the NOOK Color, and, as expected, it has released a major software update for the device. The update adds Netflix streaming, Flixster movies and TV shows, and full-color comics. There are over 100 new features in total, as well as significant performance tweaks. The NOOK Color 1.4.1 software update is available now and can be downloaded directly to the tablet when it is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Government finds GPS interference in tests of LightSquared's network

The U.S. government has published the results of its extensive testing of LightSquared's planned 4G LTE network, and the results don't look all that great for LightSquared. According to the report, the government found that the network caused interference with 75 percent of the GPS devices tested.
