TweetDeck is dead: Twitter to shutdown iPhone, Android, and desktop apps to focus on the web Posted: 04 Mar 2013 04:06 PM PST TweetDeck, the once popular alternative Twitter client that Twitter acquired nearly two years ago, is nearing the end of its mobile life. TweetDeck has confirmed that its Android and iPhone apps will be discontinued in May. The move is necessary to build a better client for the web, the place "where our TweetDeck power-users are going," according to the announcement. Users may experience outages ahead of the shutdown because the app relies on Twitter API 1.0, which is also set to shutdown soon. TweetDeck will be removed from the App Store and Google Play two years after Twitter acquired the company. Read the full story here. |

White House and FCC say cell phone unlock should be legalized Posted: 04 Mar 2013 12:02 PM PST The Obama administration agrees with the 114,000 people who signed a WhiteHouse.gov petition urging more legal freedom for unlocking smartphones, and FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has joined in voicing his agency's support to make it easier to unlock phones or tablets that are not under carrier agreements. Sprint 4G LTE expands into 9 new markets Posted: 04 Mar 2013 07:45 AM PST Sprint has added nine new markets to the list of cities and towns it services with 4G LTE. Sprint revealed last week that LTE has already been delivered to dozens of places across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, so today's launches puts the carrier closer to its goal of being in more than 130 markets before the end of the year. LTE service is now available in the following areas: Altoona, Pa., Asheville, N.C., Columbus, Ind., Elkhart/Goshen, Ind., Hammond, La., La Crosse, Wis., San Juan, Puerto Rico, Statesville, N.C., and Temple, Texas.
