Microsoft and RIM sign licensing deal for exFAT file storage

Microsoft has announced that it has agreed to license its Extended File Allocation Table (exFAT) technology to Research In Motion. Microsoft says that RIM will use exFAT to enable a "modern file system" for select BlackBerry devices, which should optimize storage capabilities on BlackBerry's upcoming devices. The deal allows RIM to use technology that increases the maximum file size that can be stored through flash memory, and improves file transfer and media management between desktops and mobile devices. Microsoft reached a similar deal with Sharp last month.

Amazon Cloud Player launches in UK

Amazon has brought its Cloud Player music service, which stores and streams a user's personal music collection, to the UK. Amazon has made Cloud Player available to British customers beginning today, allowing users to keep their music stored in the cloud and available on several mobile devices.

AT&T to face FCC complaint for iPhone FaceTime over cellular restrictions

AT&T confirmed last month that it will not allow customers to make FaceTime video calls over a cellular connection unless they switch to its Mobile Share Data plans. Three organizations have banded together to speak out against that decision by filing a complaint with the FCC.
