Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II gains Android 4.3 Jelly Bean

The Verizon model of the Samsung Galaxy Note II has joined the parade of devices that have upgraded firmware versions this week. While some smartphones made the jump to Kitkat, the Galaxy Note II is instead being treated to an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update that will add some new features from the Samsung Premium Suite software. The new software also enables compatibility with the Galaxy Gear smart watch. A complete list of changes is available at Verizon. Customers can also search for the 246MB download by going to Settings > About Phone > System updates.

T-Mobile may pay customers ETF to switch networks

T-Mobile has made some major changes to its network with its "Uncarrier" initiatives. Following phases that included ending device subsidies to cut monthly costs, free data on tablets, and free international roaming, T-Mobile may next attract customers by paying the fees associated with leaving another network.

The Apple iPhone 5c was supposed to be a less expensive iOS handset that would be more attainable in emerging markets, but sales reports of the device paint a picture of the cheaper iPhone being less appealing than expected. That may cause problems for Apple's planned expansion into China.

BlackBerry announces new five-year plan as company losses reach $4.4 billion

BlackBerry has reported a massive loss of $4.4 billion during the third quarter of its fiscal year 2014. The loses were the result of selling too few BlackBerry 10 devices, which has eroded any chance of profits in recent quarters and forced new CEO John Chen into a five-year plan to right the ship.
