Verizon Moto X launches August 29

One week after the Motorola Moto X debuted on AT&T, the first Motorola smartphone built from start to finish during the Google era will go on sale at Verizon. The official Verizon Wireless Twitter account has posted that Verizon plans to debut the Moto X online beginning Thursday, August 29, for $199.99 on a two-year agreement. The phone will appear in stores weeks later. The Moto X on Verizon lacks the ability to customize the exterior at the moment, but the phone will be sold in white or black until Verizon joins the Moto Maker ranks at an undisclosed time later this year. Sprint BlackBerry Q10 launches August 30

Sprint will deliver its first BlackBerry 10 handset later this week when the carrier begins offering the BlackBerry Q10 for $199.99 on a two-year agreement. The phone will be available online and in stores beginning Friday, August 30. The Q10 has already been made available at the other three major carriers in the U.S., but Sprint will make it four at the end of the week for customers craving a device with a physical keyboard. LG confirms it's return to the tablet market with the G Pad 8.3 promo video

LG briefly flirted wit the Android tablet market when it released its Optimus Tabs running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, but it didn't do much else in the segment. The Korean manufacturer has confirmed plans to release a new tablet soon by posting a teaser video on YouTube.

It's not just LG using the back of smartphones for more than just a place to plaster its logo. Chinese smartphone maker Oppo also has plans to launch a phone with touch controls on the back, but it's using a panel rather than the volume and power controls seen on the LG G2.

Google Now search results show more information for definitions and synonyms

Google search results on desktop and mobile have been updated to show more than just the meaning of a word when someone seeks a definition. Saying "define [insert word]" will now also show sample sentences and synonyms. Google also charts a word's frequency of usage throughout history, shows its language origin, and shows the translation intoother languages. The results are not available globally but should be accessible when searching English words from Google.com or triggering the "define" command through Google Now devices in the U.S. A guaranteed victory in the spelling bee is sadly not included in this update.

Pandora will remove 40-hour listening limit next month, add sleep timer today

Apple Maps will get another boost for transit directions courtesy of Embark

Apple has quietly been scooping mapping services in order to improve its iOS Maps, which has been dogged since its debut and improved over time, and the company has apparently added another firm to its portfolio. Apple has acquired Embark, a small company that developed iPhone and Android apps that offer public transit guides in large cities.

Google Keep adds time and location-based reminders, and adds navigation drawer for more organization

Google Keep has emerged as a dead-simple way to manage notes and tasks, but Google is taking baby steps to make its productivity app be a little more productive. The first step is to add the ability to get reminders with a new "Remind me" that sends alerts at a designated time or when the user visits a certain location. Once the time comes or the user visits the location, a reminder appears in the Notification drawer and users can dismiss the the alert or set a snooze to reappear later. Google Keep also added the hidden navigation drawer within the app for easier account switching and listings of archives or reminders. Download Google Play
