HTC invite points to new selfie oriented device

HTC was kind enough to send us an invite this evening for a press event that it is holding on October 8th in New York City, and we'll even get to have drinks afterwards. However, enough about the jet set life of the tech writer (it's not really) and on to what exactly HTC will be announcing during the event.

Google responds to security breach that sent 4 million passwords onto the web

A couple of weeks after a suspected iCloud leak left a number of famous people literally spread all over the internet, Apple's rival Google has endured its own security threat. Millions of username and password details were leaked onto the internet via a Russian based bitcoin forum, although it is not known how the details were leaked.

Microsoft to ditch Nokia branding

Microsoft's recent history with Nokia has been a fruitful one; it helped to put Windows Phone on the map and Nokia had such success on the platform that Microsoft bought the Finnish company's devices division. Since then Redmond has been churning out its own smartphones with the Nokia Lumia branding, but it seems Microsoft is now willing to let go of Nokia altogether.

Android 4.4.4 makes bow on T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4

Android 4.4.4 continues to do the rounds this week and has now been announced for the T-Mobile variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4. The S4 is of course Samsung's 2013 flagship, so it is nice to see that the Korean company is continuing it near the end of Android KitKat's reign, while the device is also in line to land Android L when that is released.

Blackberry targets iOS 8 in new Fact Check

With iOS 8 and the iPhone 6, Apple is claiming it has the best productivity and enterprise smartphone, especially now that Apple Pay takes care of NFC mobile payments. However, the king of mobile enterprise has a few things to say about that and Blackberry has delivered a "Fact Check" slideshow to compare its own BB10 operating system with Apple's iOS 8.

Sony rolls out Android 4.4.4 for Xperia Z and Z Tablet

Sony has announced today that a whole range of its Xperia Z devices are getting an update to Android 4.4.4, the newest release of Google's mobile OS. The Japanese giant announced the news via its official Twitter account, letting some of its older Xperia Z devices catch up to the newer ones with Android 4.4.4.

Apple launched the iPhone 6 yesterday in what was a very successful and warmly received media event for the company. The device is very good, easily the best Apple has made so far and has plenty going for it in almost every regard. However, that does not mean there are no problems and after getting to know the iPhone 6 a little better we can offer a clearer impression.
