Archos details new range of smartphone and tablets

IFA is less than a week away and the companies are already rolling into town for the Berlin event; the latest to take its place is Archos. The French company that largely specialises in lower end budget devices is not having a big reveal at the event, but has instead been showing off what it will launch on the floor of the trade show.

Samsung to launch new SIM enabled wearable at IFA

When a new mobile oriented event arrives, we are not content with just seeing what smartphones and tablets are released as the wearable market is now making its presence felt. No company has done more to pad out the smart watch market than Samsung, but then the Korean giant does that in any category. At its IFA press event in Berlin next week, Samsung will launch yet another smart watch from its Galaxy Gear range.

Just about every brand wants to make it big in China, except for the Chinese ones who are big there and want to have success everywhere else. Every company from Microsoft to Apple and from Sony to Samsung wants to crack the Chinese market because the rewards are astronomical. This goes for Mobile platforms too, with Apple (iOS) and Google (Android) dominating the scene in China, especially the latter.

Sprint issues Android 4.4.4 for the Moto X

Sprint has confirmed that the Moto X variant that it carries will now be getting the update to Android 4.4.4, bringing the latest released version of Google's mobile platform to Motorola's 2013 flagship. It is a timely bump as the new Moto X+1 is expected to land on September 4th and that will probably be running Android 4.4.4 from launch.

I had a chat to a rather successful Blackberry employee from the advertising team recently via email and she was extremely positive about the company's future. I was honest in saying that I did not see the optimism, but her later replies shed some light on the general plan of the company moving forward and I can say now, there is a reason why investors are coming back to the Canadian company.

Corning, the company behind the Gorilla Glass that is found on just about every decent smartphone would have you believe that sapphire glass is not a threat. The company even created a video showing how Gorilla Glass is better than sapphire, that's how not worried Corning is. However, it seems more companies are willing to use sapphire and Chinese company Huawei is the latest.

ComScore has been picking over the finer details of the mobile industry again and this time turned the spotlight on apps to find some interesting conclusions. The company totted the number of app downloads per month and found that a large percentage of mobile users actually didn?t download any apps... not one... nothing.
