| Verizon Wireless raises smartphone base to 72 percent and adds 550,000 customers in Q1 2014 Posted: 24 Apr 2014 06:05 AM PDT  Verizon Wireless today released its earnings report for the first quarter of 2014. In the three-month period ending in March, the wireless operator added 549,000 net subscribers, raising its total customer base to 103.3 million. About 97.3 million of those customers are on postpaid contracts. Verizon also continued its trend of converting customers to smartphones thanks to releasing more devices like the Nokia Lumia Icon and the HTC One M8.
