HTC One Google Play Android 4.4 KitKat update rolling out

One week after HTC said the only thing standing between Android 4.4 KitKat and the HTC One Google Play Edition was for Google to release the firmware package that it submitted, Google has begun the KitKat update rollout. The 320MB file adds several new features to One GPE and is available as an over-the-air update by going to the About phone section of the Settings app. OTA notifications should start arriving in stages to users beginning today.

Redbox Instant for Windows Phone appears as temporary Nokia exclusive

Redbox Instant, the TV and video streaming service launched by Redbox and Verizon earlier this year, is now available for Windows Phone 8 users. However, the movie rental and subscription service will work only with a Nokia Lumia until the general release of the app in 60 days. Unlike the Redbox app that launched in July, Redbox Instant includes movies that can be viewed on mobile devices at any time and shows inventory for local Redbox kiosks if someone wishes to rent a DVD or Blu-Ray. LG shoots down dumb rumor about it focusing less on smartphones

Motorola has announced that the Android 4.4 KitKat update is making its way to T-Mobile subscribers. Following this week's announcement that Verizon had already begun its update process, T-Mobile has also started its staged rollout to deliver a new Hangouts app, a new Gallery, a better camera app, a new phone dialer, and more. T-Mobile customers can attempt to check for an update by going to Settings > About phone > Systems update.
