Google Wallet for Android and Google Drive for iOS get important updates

Google today released updates for its cloud file and document manager Google Drive iOS apps and its NFC-based mobile payment Android app Google Wallet, adding batch photo uploads and a new user interface respectively.

Apple releases iOS 6.1 for iPhone and iPad, enables Siri ticket purchasing and iTunes Match downloads

Apple today released the iOS 6.1 software update for its iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. The new software adds LTE support for more global markets and addresses a few minor bug fixes. The most notable adjustments in iOS 6.1 are Siri's new ability to purchase movie tickets using Fandango in the U.S., and iTunes Match subscribers being able to download individual songs from iCloud. Apple iOS 6.1 is available for installation on iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad mini, iPod touch (fourth or fifth generation), and the iPad (second generation or later).

BlackBerry World will feature DRM-free music and movie downloads on DVD release days

As it prepares to officially unveil BlackBerry 10 later this week, RIM today announced that its BlackBerry World storefront will feature plenty of media options when the first BB10 devices go on sale. It also named the movie studios, TV networks, and record labels that will supply content to BlackBerry World.

Nokia Music has been a useful way for Nokia Lumia device owners to discover and listen to music on their mobile devices, but the free service placed limits on the amount of songs listeners could skip or save to listen to while offline. A new paid version of Nokia Music will solve that problem.

Lenovo backs away from RIM acquisition suggestions

Verizon and AT&T agree to wireless license sale in 39 markets

In recent months, Verizon Wireless has sold its lower 700MHz B Block licenses in several markets, but it has mostly been to smaller regional carriers. Verizon today announced it has reached agreement to sell similar licenses to chief rival AT&T.

Samsung keeps its eyes on releasing more phones in developing world following big Q4 profits

Think Samsung might follow the "less is more" approach favored by Apple and HTC? Think again. Samsung reported a nearly $8.23 billion operating profit in the fourth quarter of 2012 thanks in part to the success of its Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II, but the Korean manufacturer sees more phone models as the answer to more profits.

AT&T reports Apple iPhone accounts for 84 percent of its smartphone sales in Q4 2012
