RIM promises at least $10,000 in revenue to BlackBerry 10 developers who earn $1,000 or more

Research In Motion will guarantee revenue of at least $10,00 to developers who release popular BlackBerry 10 apps. A new challenge states that if a developer sells $1,000 worth of apps but fails to generate $10,000 in revenue, RIM will pay the difference.

HTC promises to show what's next September 19

It appears as though September is the month manufacturers have decided to announce their upcoming mobile products. Nokia and Microsoft get things started tomorrow, followed by Amazon on Thursday, and Apple next week. HTC has thrown its hat into the ring by sending invitations to bloggers for a September 19th press event to be held in New York City. The invitation promises to show what's next for HTC, and has a flat icon that points to the user interface formerly known as Metro UI. HTC is expected to debut a range of new Windows Phone 8 devices at the event.

Apple teases iPhone 5 in invite for September 12 media event

Apple has all but confirmed that it will unveil the next iPhone at a press event in San Francisco next week. Apple has begun sending out invites for a September 12 event that shows the number 12 with a shadow forming the number 5, a possible reference to the fifth iteration (in branding) of the iPhone set to launch soon. Apple has been rumored to announce the a new iPhone and a smaller iPad, but recent speculation points to an all-iPhone focus at next week's event. All will be revealed September 12 at 10 AM PST / 1 PM ET.

BBC iPlayer adds downloads to iPhone and iPad, Android coming soon

The BBC has made its wealth of video content available for download on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices. The British media company's iPlayer app now enables program downloads that can be stored up to 30 days, or viewed up to 7 days once the play button has been pressed. The new feature lets viewers play programs anywhere that a Wi-Fi or 3G signal is unavailable. Downloads are available only over Wi-Fi, and can be enabled by tapping the 'Download' button on each program. iPlayer for Android will soon enable downloads as well, but the Apple iOS version is available now. HP releases Open webOS beta ahead of September launch

The Open webOS project has taken another step towards fulfilling HP's pledge to keep webOS alive. Following a promise to release webOS under an open source license, HP released a beta version of the code today. The code and development tools are the first step towards making the software that powered the Palm Pre and HP Touchpad useable for developers looking to put the software on other devices. HP has dropped efforts to build consumer products using webOS software, but the company has made 54 components and 450,000 lines of code available to developers. The final release of Open webOS is expected next month.

Bank of America Windows Phone app adds Mobile Check Deposit

The Bank of America app for Windows Phone has been updated to add the Mobile Check Deposit feature that first appeared on Android and iPhone devices. The new feature allows Bank of America customers to deposit checks to their account by taking a picture of the front and back of a check. The images are securely sent to Bank of America and then verified before the funds become available to a customer the next business day. Windows Phone users can now use the app to deposit money, find deals, check balances, pay bills, transfer money, and get notifications in live tile updates. Download from Marketplace
