HTC Posts Dire Q3 Financials, No Light at the End of the Tunnel

HTC has announced its third quarter financial report, and as you can probably guess, it is not good news for the struggling Taiwanese brand. Things have been getting progressively worse for HTC through the course of this year, even so bad as for the company's stock to crumble and it to lose virtually all of its brand value.

Oppo A53m and A33m Smartphones Certified in China

Oppo has had a pair of devices certified by 3C in China, the A53m and A33m, the latter of which has also passed through the TENAA certification body. Neither handset has been officially announced by Oppo just yet, but both are likely to land in the next month and will pad out the company's budget smartphone portfolio.

HTC One M8 with Android 6.0 Marshmallow Receives Bluetooth Certification

HTC said that is flagship devices like the One A9, One M9, and One M8 will be getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow within three months after the platform launched earlier this month. That means those handsets should be getting the update sometime in January, and that seems to be the case with the One M8 as the Marshmallow software for that handset received certification for Bluetooth SIG recently.

Nintendo's First Mobile Game is Underwhelming Miitomo

Donkey Kong, Zelda, f*****g Mario! Just some of the classic and awesome characters that Nintendo has in its arsenal. The company announced its first ever smartphone game today, and well, it was none of those beloved gaming legends coming to device near you. Instead Nintendo rolled out a rather bland title called Miitomo.

Qualcomm says Snapdragon 820 will not Overheat

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor is the company's current flagship silicon, but it has been plagued with issues. It started off overheating, which led for smartphones (we're thinking the LG G Flex 2) to throttle the chipset and underperform. It has gotten better through the year, but largely an issue that has stayed with the silicon. Qualcomm is now smoothing things over by saying its upcoming Snapdragon 820 will have no such problems.

Samsung View Launching November 6 at $600

Samsung introduced the Galaxy View yesterday, a giant tablet with an 18.4-inch screen, but while the company detailed the specs it did not say when the View will arrive or indeed how much it would cost. iOS 9.2 Beta Available for All Compatible iPhones

The Public Beta of iOS 9.2 has been made available to everyone by Apple, or at least those who have a compatible iPhone that is. The days of betas being solely for developers has long gone, and if you so choose you can check out build 9.2 of Apple's iOS platform, although it is worth remembering that this is not the finished and polished version that will be rolled out over the air in the coming weeks.

Galaxy A5 Sequel Passes Bluetooth 4.1 Certification

We recently reported that the sequels to the Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A7 had passed through benchmark software, showing their specs along the way. Follow ups for the Galaxy A5 and the Galaxy A8 were absent, but it seems that at least the former does exist as the new Galaxy A5 has received its Bluetooth certification.

Verizon has revealed that its two Motorola exclusive, the DROID MAXX 2 and the DROID Turbo 2, are available to purchase from today. Of course, Big Red only has exclusivity on those handsets inside the United States, around the world the MAXX 2 is known as the Moto X Play, while the Turbo 2 was announced as the Moto X Force in other regions of the world.

Microsoft Giving Away Display Dock for Lumia 950/Lumia 950 XL for Free

One of the best things about the Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL flagships announced earlier this month was the Continuum software that allows them to be hooked up to a screen and used as a fully functioning PC. LG is proving that you simply cannot stand still in the smartphone market as the company's third quarter financials reveal worrying signs for the future. LG propelled itself into the big leagues with the fantastic G3 flagship, and the company looked on the cusp of something massive. However, the G4 was too incremental, safe where the G3 was bold, and the result has been stuttering financials.

Samsung Tops Smartphone Market in Q3

Strategy Analysts has released data that shows Samsung outsold rival Apple almost 2 to 1 in the third quarter to re-confirm its position as the number one smartphone manufacturer on the market. Well most outlets will peg this as an interesting Samsung vs. Apple debate, it really isn't, for several reasons. However, it does say a lot about Samsung's market position in the long term and how the company is dealing with a poor 2014.

Motorola Launching DROID Turbo 2 as Moto X Force Globally

Motorola and Verizon announced the DROID Turbo 2 yesterday, a decked out flagship with rugged build and a ShatterSheild screen. As always, Motorola will also launch the handset in other regions, without the DROID name and with Verizon on board. That international variant has been announced today as the Moto X Force, which becomes the company's most spec'd out smartphone (the Moto X Pure Edition is the flagship still).
